Before: Cold, angular surfaces make the bath look uninviting.

After: Plants soften the hard edges; add texture, color and height; and create a welcoming environment.
Jeff Moran of Living Green Nursery transforms a cold, bare bathroom in minutes with the addition of appropriate plants. Some plants he suggests using in the bath include orchids, ferns, air plants, bromeliads and peace lilies (Spathiphyllum).

An artful arrangement of plants for the counter utilizes height and color for interest.
At one end of the tub, he used a fern, which loves humid conditions and adds a soft, frilly touch, and a philodendron on a plant stand. At the other end, he combined a peace lily for height, a sturdy white-blooming bromeliad, and a maidenhair fern for softness. On the sink, he used interesting containers that complement the plants and each other. He combines plants for an interesting array of height, color and texture.

Note: If using plants in a powder room that has no shower or tub, you will need to water and mist more frequently.
