Poetry stones are a great way to personalize your garden--either with a handprint, plant markers or your favorite saying. You can pick up a poetry stone kit at garden centers or craft stores. It contains molds, letters, pre-measured bag of concrete for one stone, mortar, dye colors and a trowel.

Begin by laying a piece of plastic on a flat surface. Place the mold on top of the plastic. Add about a cup of water to the bag of concrete and knead it until all the lumps are gone. Do this quickly because this is fast-setting concrete. It will start off soupy but will quickly turn to a brownie dough texture. That's the time to add about a tablespoon of tint to the concrete. Knead it some more and then pour the mixture into the mold, level it with the trowel, and let the concrete set up a bit. Then press in the letters one at a time and remove quickly. Finally, remove the frame.

At this point, let it cure for 48 hours. Plant the stone in the garden deep enough so the surface of the stone is flush with the garden surface. Enjoy your poetry blooming in the garden.
