Easter lilies are a traditional spring gift, and if you're the lucky recipient, you'll want some tips to keep them growing. Your lily will appreciate a drink a week, but don't overdo it. Too much water causes the bulb to rot. Take it to the kitchen sink, water it thoroughly and allow the water to drain. As far as lighting conditions go, place the lily in a room that's bright enough that you can read a book. But keep in mind: the cooler the room, the longer the flowers will last.
Speaking of the flowers, take a look inside. See the beautiful pollen sacs? They're beautiful to look at but can be a mess on your linens, staining them permanently. To save your linens, just snip off the pollen sacs, which will also keep the flower nice and clean. Also, when the bloom starts to die back, it's important that you deadhead the flower by pruning back the stem.
Because the Easter lily is a forced bulb, it won't bloom again indoors, but there's a chance you might get it to bloom again outdoors. All you need to do is take it out when it's nice and warm, plant it in a sunny location, as deep as it was in the container. Keep it watered, fertilize it and then cross your fingers. There's a 50-50 chance it will bloom again.
