Container Gardening For All Seasons, Edited by Brenda Houghton. Reader's Digest, $29.95.
- This book is in keeping with most Reader's Digest garden publications, in that it is clear, easy to read, full of vibrant pictures and packed with solid advice. Container Gardening was written from Reader's Digest's London offices, so the viewpoint is English which is a plus, because gardening is practically a nationwide obsession there.
- But no matter where you live, "Container Gardening" offers advice on how to choose the right pots and suitable flowers and foliage for any location and every season.
- The book is broken into several categories. It offers advice on choosing the right pot, explains the advantages of container gardens over in-ground gardens, and explains how to pair certain flowers and plants based on their colors, sizes and shapes.
- It also gives step-by-step photos and explanations about how to properly start a garden container (which soil to use, etc.). The "encyclopedia" of flowers at the end is grouped by color a plus for us know-nothings who want to plant by color and don't necessarily have a specific plant in mind.
