Bug-Eating Plants

Some plants are so unique and fascinating that they capture a child’s interest and imagination immediately:

Venus flytraps (figure A): When a bug or gnat lands on the leaves, the plant encloses it and slowly digests it. This plant likes an east-facing window and should be kept warm and moist.
Dracera (figure B): This plant has tentacles that are coated with a glue-like substance that bugs mistake for nectar. Give this plant warm, moist conditions and no direct sun.
Octopus plant (figure C): Tentacles wave in the wind and lures insects. These plants like high humidity and bright light.
Pitcher plant: This plant has a basin full of nectar that attracts bugs.
Cobra lily (figure D): This plant resembles a cobra that's about to strike. The nectar near the head of the plant lures bugs. Keep the cobra lily in a cool, moist environment. It will produce beautiful red flowers in the spring.
