Modern Indian Backyard

Before: This large covered patio has a lot of potential. Designer Carmen de la Paz plans to divide it into sections for separate purposes while tying it all together with touches of India to reflect the homeowner's heritage.

After: Custom furniture, bursts of red and a 40-foot water trench that follows the patio line combine with low-maintenance plants (bamboo, banana trees and marigolds) to add comfort and serenity to this back patio.

Bonnie Paryani wants to remind her daughter, Anita, of their Indian roots by giving her a new backyard that reflects their cultural heritage. Paryani calls in host Susie Coelho and the Outer Spaces team to transform Anita's backyard into a modern Indian getaway. Designer Carmen de la Paz's plan includes custom-made furniture and a 40-foot water feature with two walking bridges!
