The Firestones hope a new entrance will properly set the stage for their grand home. They want to create a grand entrance that will truly showcase their French-style home. They would like a design that frames the entry and provides the perfect walkway to their front door while remaining consistent with the 1930s style.
Up for the challenge are designers Linda Lawrence, Sherman Sylvan and Wendy Harper. Linda Lawrence presents a colorful plant palette, including burgundy Japanese maples and yellow gingkos, and incorporates a soothing waterfall and small fish pond at the front entryway. Sylvan proposes a formal French garden theme with antique ironwork and double brick borders. Two circular fountains would grace each side of the pathway. Wendy Harper plans to match the European elegance of the home with a classical design. Her finishing touch would be a romantic, cast-iron water fountain.
After a week of comparing the designs, the Firestones choose Wendy Harper's. Today, the new walkway leads directly to the front door and is framed at the gate with custom ironwork. This custom look is carried over to the grand cast iron fountain, which includes fish for the kids to enjoy. Wendy Harper has succeeded in unifying the elegant European look of the home into the front entryway, which looks as if it's always been there.
