Cleaning hydroponics systems is as easy as caring for your plants. Every six months, remove the inner container from the pot and flush the clay pebbles with clean, lukewarm water to help eliminate any salt deposits (figure A). Return the container to the pot and add fresh nutritional solution.

If the plant has died, you can still reuse the pebbles. Pour the pebbles into a bucket, and rinse them with a solution of one part bleach and three parts water (figure B). Drain the bucket, and rinse the pebbles with clean water.
