Gardening can be a lot easier and more fun when you have the proper tools. Organize them in a handy tool caddy so you can quickly and neatly carry them from plant to plant. Some tools you might want to consider for your caddy include:
  • Sturdy safety gloves--be sure they fit well.
  • Trowel--use for digging up and transplanting plants.
  • Blunt-edge table knife--great for loosening plants from containers.
  • A pair of hand pruners--keep the safety latch on when not in use.
  • Scissors--use to snip the browned ends of foliage.
  • Soil scoop--a sturdy, deep scoop makes moving soil from bag to pot easy and neat.
  • Trigger sprayer--use to mist houseplants and increase humidity as well as dissolve dust. If insects are a problem, add a little dish soap to the water when spritzing.
  • Watering can--choose a can with a long spout so water can be carefully applied at the roots without wetting leaves.
  • Ramekin--place a small bowl (figure A) upside down in the bottom of a large container and sit a potted plant directly on top of it (figure B). The elevation will keep the plant's roots out of the drainage water.
