Inaccessible Expanse

Carrie and Jim Rowan adore their three-acre backyard in Gwynned Valley, Pa. — so much that they built their dream house so that every room overlooks the sloping, green expanse. Now, they're ready to get the most out of this little slice of heaven: They would like a shaded patio space for outdoor living and entertaining, pathways to connect the garage and shed to the house and an informal seating area near the babbling creek that bounds the far side of their property. Rising to the challenge are landscape pros Brian Waltersdorf, Christian Brown and Joanne Kostecky.

The Rowan's property is loaded with natural beauty, but they don't have an outdoor space where they can relax and enjoy it. In fact, their high back porch makes it hard even to climb down to the yard in the first place. Carrie longs for an easy-access patio where they can relax, plus outdoor entertaining space that will let them share this great property with friends.
